CRUTCH MEASUREMENTS

TYPES OF CRUTCHES : 1. AXILLARY CRUTCHES: These are light weight and can be made of wood or metal. Axillary crutches consist of an axillary bar, hand piece, double uprights joined distally by a single leg covered with a rubber suction tip. The single leg allows height variations, by alterations of screws and wing bolts in predrilled holes known as telescopic arrangements. Hand grip variations can be done either by screws or push button mechanism. These help to improve balance and lateral stability. Provide functional ambulation and lateral stability. Can be used for stair ascending and descending MEASUREMENT OF LENGTH : A. IN LYING : WITH SHOES OFF : (most reliable method) measurement is with the help of inch tape from apex of axilla till the lower margin of medial malleolus. WITH SHOES ON : 5cm vertically down from apex of axilla till 20 cm lateral to the heel of the shoes. Measurement from axillary pad to hand grip : Elbow is flexed 15 degrees, mark a point 5 cm below the apex ...

PFT (PULMONARY FUNCTION TESTS) - TESTS OF VENTILATORY FUNCTION

INTRODUCTION:  It is unusual for a specific lung function test to diagnose a disease. At Jbest, a series of tests may place a lung disorder into one of several categories and when other features such as history, physical examination, radiology and pathology are added to the equation, a possible diagnosis is considered. Most requests for tests will include £ provisional diagnosis. When the most appropriate tests have been Selected, further hurdles must be overcome before any reliable results can be obtained. The patient must be able to co-operate fully Ind there is no substitute for an experienced, sympathetic but firm technician to ensure that maximum performance has been achieved. I rushed estimate of total lung capacity (TLC) in a claustrophobic |nd panicking, body-box-bound patient is no use to anyone. The Technician must have the right to question the advisability of a test |n a particular day as the patient may have become too ill to cooperate or be recovering from fractured r...

SINUSOIDAL CURRENT

INTRODUCTION: Sinusoidal current is evenly alternating sine wave currents having a frequency of 50hZ. It gives 100 pulses or phases in one second of 10 ms each, 50 in on direction and 50 in the other. It can be generated by reducing the voltage in 60 or 80 volts with the step down transformer. EFFECTS OF SINUSOIDAL CURRENT: The main action of the sinusoidal current is to to produce the muscle contraction. If it is applied continuously, tetanic contraction will occur and there is stimulation of both sensory and motor nerves which will produce tingling and needle like sensation. This is the prime reason for which the surging of current has been carried out. Once the current is surged it will produce rhythmic muscle contractions. the pain relief occurs when sensory nerves are stimulated , by pain gait mechanism. Also when there is contraction of the muscles, this contraction has a massage like effect which not only improves the circulation of the blood butt also help in the reduction...

INTERVERTEBRAL DISC PROLAPSE (IVDP)

INTRODUCTION : When the protrusion or extrusion of the nucleus pulposus through a rent in the annulus fibrosus, IVDP occurs. Full Form Of IVDP is :  Intervertebral Disc Prolapse. A prolapsed disc is commonly known as ‘slipped disc’, where a disc does not actually slips but the part of the inner softer part of the disc bulges out or herniates through a weakness in the outer part of the disc. The  intervertebral disc prolapse is also known as herniated disc. STAGES OF PIVDP: It has four stages: (1) Bulging: At this early stage, the disc is stretched and doesn’t completely return to its normal shape when pressure is relieved. It retains a slight bulge at one side of the disc. Some of the inner disc fibers could be torn and the soft jelly ( nucleus pulposus ) is spiling outwards into the disc fibers but not out of the disc. (2) Protrusion: At this stage, the bulge is very prominent and the soft jelly center has spilled out to the inner edge of the outer fibers, barely held i...
